Sa-Baai Dii

I’m in  Vientiane, the capital of Laos. My sister Roxy met me at the airport with my very cute, very chubby little nephew and a sign saying welcome aunty crystal 😊.

(Sorry about the blur, it was the best photo we had)

I thought I’d give you a little info about Laos since I’ve been part of some pretty funny conversations lately and it has occurred to me that some people don’t know much about this country.  Laos is a land-locked country in South-East Asia, sharing a border with it’s more famous cousins Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and China.  It is not the capital of the Philippines or part of Vietnam!!  The capital, Vientiane is pretty chilled compared with other SE Asian capitals, not as developed – this means no Golden Arches or fried chicken chains.  One of the local dishes is laap – it’s a spicy mince dish with fresh herbs and it’s delicious! The Laos people are very friendly, sa-baai dii is their greeting, it means hello/how are you/I’m fine.
