Tiger’s Nest – Taktsang Palphug Monastery

This monastery was originally built in 1692 and was restored after fire damage in 1998.  It is believed that a guru came to a cave at this site and meditated for 3 years.  It’s a hike that starts in the Paro valley and you will climb 900m of elevation to 3120m above sea level.  Amazing views but I definitely deserved my beer after this.

The start of the hike

The pack horses used to take things up to the monastery

a tourist with a dorky hiking outfit….oh and a monastery in the background πŸ™‚ this is about half way up

it was a bit misty on the mountain

clouds are lifting

notice all the stairs to climb before you reach tiger’s nest

happy face before tackling the stairs

the view on the way down

  1. stunning pictures.
particularly like the one of you in your dorky tourist outfit with your washing drying on the clothes line.
was there a lift for the downward journey?
