Well I’ve left Laos for the rest of my travels. Roxy made me a lovely take-away breakfast with a fresh baguette, avocado and a chocolate croissant. I made friends with the French man sitting next to me on the bus, he was a chain smoker but had been to Myanmar before so I decided he was worth talking to.
I got the VIP treatment at the Udon Thani airport for some reason – me and a girl from San Francisco. We were the only 2 in customs and were escorted to the plane and greeted in Bangkok by Air Asia staff who took us the quick way through to the transit lounge. I had plenty of time to wait so for a budget airline – I reckon that’s pretty good service. Was a bit weird but I wasn’t complaining – I definitely didn’t pay for that.
I caught an overnight train last night from Yangon to Bagan. They are always an adventure…….a 21 hour bumpy adventure in fact. I saw some lovely scenery of farmlands and waved to a lot of people. The train was pretty rickety but we did stay in the upper class sleepers. At times it felt like I was riding a bucking bull in the rodeo – made squatting over the toilet a challenge 😀

crystal.
great picture montage.
have you seen much of the flooding that is affecting the country or is that further north?
and your many years of professional bull riding at the Great Western hotel in Rockhampton should have made going to the bathroom a breeze!

So Burma is now Myanmar. I checked on Google to make sure. The place looks green and lush nothing like old Longreach

I’m glad I’m not the only one who needed brushing up on their geography. Did you feel like a VIP going through the Udon airport? Maybe they are mistaking you for a famous Asian celebrity!!
