Buenos Aires

Argentinians have dinner late, it’s not unusual to go to a restaurant at 10pm for dinner with the kids.  Since I’m all about local interaction and responsible travel, I’ve adjusted my wake-up time to 11am to fit in 😀.  Despite my late starts, I’ve still managed to be a pretty good tourist. Walking tour, cycling tour, street art tour AND eating steak and potatoes – it’s hard to find any green veggies or even a carrot here!

Street art, wine from a penguin and just for mum – top left and top right are El Pope’s old stomping grounds

Argentina has just elected a new president. He used to be the Mayor of Buenos Aires and before that, the President of the football team – La Boca Juniors (some guy called Maradona used to play for them). La Boca isn’t considered a particularly safe area of Buenos Aires, at least that is what the security guard told us when I arrived with my Irish friends to see the stadium. To be fair, we arrived as the sun was setting and the stadium was closed so him telling us to get back in the taxi was probably sound advice! I took a trip back during the day because I love football 😉

La Boca, colourful houses and football. The guy in the lower right corner is my favourite player – based on ability of course 😂

I’ve been quite international here – me (an aussie-pino) went to an opera that was in German with Spanish subtitles, with American girls. I didn’t understand a thing, the opera was boring and since we had cheap,  standing only tickets, we left after 45 min. La bomba del tiempo – an improvisation percussion band was much cooler.

That’s my last South American blog, I’m heading back to Asia today – can not wait to have stir fried noodles and proper rice again 🍜🍚
